Layoffs at Reader's Digest; EIC Peter Stockland let go
This story has been updated.

Reader's Digest Canada has laid off 15 staff today. Of those let go, 13 were based in Montreal while two worked at the company's Toronto office.

The biggest change comes in editorial, where the company has decided to "regroup all editorial teams under one editor-in-chief to gain efficiency and optimize the use of competencies and expertise."

As a result, Peter Stockland, vice president and editor-in-chief, English magazines, has been laid off. Stockland joined the company from the Montreal Gazette in 2004 as editor of Reader's Digest and also served as editor of Our Canada and More of Our Canada.

Robert Goyette, formerly in charge of French magazines, has been promoted to vice president of book editorial and editor-in-chief for all magazines.

In February, the Reader’s Digest Association announced that 8% of its global workforce—about 280 people—would be let go. The company also said it would impose mandatory unpaid vacation days for employees and reduce travel budgets.
