Lucy Collin has been appointed as the director of sales for
Marketing magazine and
CARDonline, which are owned by Rogers Publishing Inc. Collin, previously the senior sales manager for
Marketing, will oversee both publications, as well as associated conferences and award shows. Collin spent 15 years at CBC, mostly managing sales for sports and Olympic programming. She also has experience on the agency side (MBS, Grey Advertising, JWT).
Clean Eating Magazine, part of Mississauga, Ont.-based Robert Kennedy Publishing, has promoted
Kevin Shaw to art director. Shaw, a George Brown grad who’s been with the company for about a year in senior designer and associate art director roles, is stepping up to fill in for creative director
Caren Watkins, who will be going on maternity leave this summer. Shaw’s previous experience includes an art director job with Osprey magazines and a senior design editor job with Collingwood, Ont.-based Rennie Media Inc.
Benjamin Leszcz, a former editor with
Saturday Night,
Toro and
EnRoute magazines, became the editor of the recently re-launched
DailyXY.com back in January. The online magazine and e-newsletter was founded in 2006 and is aimed at men in Canadian cities such as Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.

Hal Niedzviecki, was
named one of this summer’s “25 Books You Can’t Put Down” by Oprah Winfrey, “the world’s most influential reader.” A write-up about the book appears on Oprah.com and in the July 2009 issue of
O, The Oprah Magazine. (Rumour has it Niedzviecki was considered for the cover but the editors decided to go with Oprah at the last minute.)
Freelance writer and teacher
Margaret Webb is the first-ever recipient of the Atkinson Charitable Foundation research grant. The grant allows Webb to spend four months researching Canada’s food system for an eight-part investigative series that will appear in the
Toronto Star this October. Webb teaches magazine writing at Ryerson's Chang School for Continuing Education and is the author of
Apples to Oysters: A food lover's tour of Canadian farms.
